Conference 2016

AWATEA’s 10th annual conference, held on Thursday 19 May 2016 in Wellington, was a great success.

In keeping with the theme of “Global Advances”, the morning sessions featured a wide range of international speakers giving us an update on activities in their field. These included both industry and academic speakers covering topics including technology, business development, and environmental monitoring. While many of these speakers had travelled across the globe to Wellington, the first session also involved speakers presenting live via video link from around the UK and US. This was a two-way feed allowing our delegation to ask questions and really benefit from the speakers expertise despite the geographical distance.

The afternoon focused on more local activities in the pacific and within New Zealand and we heard from researchers, device and site developers and a government official.

As this year also marked 10 years since the inception of AWATEA, it provided an ideal opportunity for reflection on these 10 years and the final session saw two presentations provided by AWATEA board members on the past, present and future of the organisation.

The day concluded with a networking session followed by the ever popular conference dinner.
