AWATEA Executive Officer speaks at United Nations

The Executive Officer had the honour of speaking at a conference held at the United Nations in New York on 30 June. The conference was convened by the United Nations Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea (UNICPOLOS). New Zealand currently holds one of the Co-Chairman positions with former NZ Ambassador to the UN, Don MacKay, sharing the co-chairman’s role with the Ambassador from Mauritius.

UNICPOLOS meets every two years or so to discuss a theme important to the United Nations. AWATEA’s Affiliation with other Ocean Energy Associations

Over the last few months AWATEA has signed Affiliation agreements with the Oregon Wave Energy Trust (OWET)  and, more recently, with the Ocean Renewable Energy Group (OREG). These agreements effectively allow each organization to have the same rights as though they were members of the other organizations. This does not mean that individual members of AWATEA have the same rights in OREG or OWET as their own members but does mean we may have opportunities for joint activities that will be beneficial to both organizations and our members.

The Executive is looking at establishing similar relationships with other similar organizations and welcomes suggests from members for such relationships.
